TGIF, which also means ushering in another recap of Usdan’s theme of the week. Every week, Usdan will be highlighting a special theme that defines Usdan’s mission and approach. Each Friday we’ll look back at all the fun and creative ways students put that week’s theme into practice. We not only want to share the amazing work the children are doing every day, but make Usdan’s guiding principles salient and tangible.
Each principle serves Usdan’s greater goal of creating a cohesive environment that encourages students to be creative in every endeavor throughout their lives.
This week’s theme is community. Usdan is a summer experience unlike any other precisely because of its foundation as a familial community of makers and doers. Community at Usdan is more than friendship between students and mentorship with faculty, though. Community is also a collaborative environment where students, friends, and classmates share work throughout the creative process.
Usdan is a place where everyone is free and encouraged to share ideas and learn from each other.
The lesson is that students and faculty alike can — and must — be fearless and open to each other’s ideas. A child’s creative growth can only be fully realized when they learn from one another and build off the ideas of their peers.
There are so many ways Usdan faculty use community and collaboration to stir the imagination and inspire new ideas, here are just a few from the past week.

Next week, we’ll examine how nature functions as a door to creative growth at Usdan.
